Kenya is THE land of safaris. The word “safari” means journey in Swahili, Kenya’s national language.

Kenya is an extremely diverse country with several different climate zones, different landscapes and an unusually broad range of cultures. The country hosts the largest animal movement in the world during the annual wildebeest migration into the Masai Mara, which itself is home to the ‘big five’ – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo.

Nairobi.

Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The name "Amboseli" comes from a Masai word meaning "salty dust" and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. It is crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. There are different habitats ranging from the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulphur springs, the savannah and to the woodlands.

The Aberdare National Park is part of the Aberdare Mountain Range in central Kenya and is located about 100 km north of Nairobi and it covers altitudes from about 7,000 feet (2,100 m) to 14,000 feet (4,300 m) above sea level.

This is where the British Monarch was staying up in the trees at the Treetops Lodge in 1952 when her father, King George the sixth, died. There is a very famous quotation “Here H.R.H. Princess Elizabeth went up as a Princess and came down as a Queen”.

Animals observed here include the leopard, elephant, black rhino, eland, bushbuck, baboons, duiker, colobus and sykes monkeys and others. Rarely the bongo can be seen. Bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds seen in the park.

The Samburu National Reserve is a game reserve on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river in Kenya and is situated within the Great Rift Valley. Samburu National Reserve derives its name from the Samburu people of Kenya who have lived in the area for many years. The Ewaso Nyiro River has a huge population of Nile crocodiles. The reserve's topography is mainly open savannah (grassland) with clusters of acacia trees, forest, thorn trees and grassland vegetation.

The conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness partly in this Park. Their story was made famous by the bestselling book and award-winning movie "Born Free".

There are animals which are unique to this park namely the long-necked Gerenuk ntelope, Grevy's Zebra and the Reticulated giraffe. This park also boasts over 350 different bird species.

Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley was once described as the most famous bird spectacle in the world. Considered an
ornithological paradise and teeming with hundreds of birds species, the park is also a sanctuary for the endangered black and white rhinos and the Rothschild’s Giraffe.

Masai Mara National Reserve is known as one of the finest wildlife destinations in the World and is one of the most popular tourism destinations in Kenya- Africa. The reserve is in the Great Rift Valley in primarily open grassland. There is an excellent chance of seeing the Big Five. The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas. The annual wildebeest’s migration, which is a world-renowned feature, alone involves over 1.5 million animals arriving in July and departing in November.

More than 470 species of birds have been identified in the park.

An optional Hot Air Balloon Safari is available in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with Champagne Bush Breakfast, at a cost of about US $400 pp.
